Tony Hayward: ‘This won’t stop deepwater drilling. It will transform it’

Tony Hayward cashed in about a third of his holding in the company one month before a well on the Deepwater Horizon rig burst, causing an environmental disaster.

Mr Hayward, whose pay package is £4?million a year, then paid off the mortgage on his family’s mansion in Kent, which is estimated to be valued at more than £1.2?million.

There is no suggestion that he acted improperly or had prior knowledge that the company was to face the biggest setback in its history.

His decision, however, means he avoided losing more than £423,000 when BP’s share price plunged after the oil spill began six weeks ago.

Since he disposed of 223,288 shares on March 17, the company’s share price has fallen by 30 per cent. About £40 billion has been wiped off its total value. The fall has caused pain not just for BP shareholders, but also for millions of company pension funds and small investors who have money held in tracker funds.

The spill, which has still not been stemmed, has caused a serious environmental crisis and is estimated to cost BP up to £40 billion to clean up.

There was growing confidence yesterday that a new cap placed over the well was stemming the oil flow. An estimated three million litres a day had been pouring into the sea off the coast of Louisiana since the April 20 explosion, damaging marine life.

The crisis has enraged US politicians, with President Obama yesterday forced to cancel a trip to Indonesia amid a row over the White House’s response.

Mr Hayward, whose position is thought to be under threat, risked further fury by continuing plans to pay out a dividend to investors next month.

Gulf oil gusher conspiracy cover-up

by Sterling D. Allan
Pure Energy Systems News

The Internet is abuzz regarding the 2008 moving “Knowing” that includes a scene in which actor Nicolas Cage is watching the news on television. The clock shows 11:59 when the anchor announces a devastating fire burning out of control in the gulf. Then the clock flips to 12:00, and the anchor says “that story leads our headlines at the top of the hour.”

Midnight has long been associated with end times. With the “doomsday clock“, the closer the clock is to midnight, the closer the world is estimated to be to global disaster.

One of the interesting things about the New World Order connivers is that for some reason they believe they must announce what they’re going to do before they do it to you. Often, this predictive programming is done through the medium of Hollywood.

Most people would look at this as a coincidence, or maybe a lucky guess.  I certainly don’t have all the answers, but I do think this is an important question to pose.

Could it be that this Gulf oil volcano disaster was planned ahead of time for some nefarious purpose? What possible benefit could such a breach have for the oil industry, whose image is already suffering from an increasing abhorrence to its pollution and the wars it fosters? You would think that such an unfolding would only galvanize people in favor of cleaner alternative fuels and energy sources.

It’s hard to fathom their possible reasons when we look at it from our perspective that has the betterment of humanity as the driving motivation. But if you look at this from the perspective of those who seek to reduce human population down to half a billion – a much more manageable size for control – then the possible motivations begin coming more clearly into focus.

That this particular forecast tucked away in the movie Knowing was associated with the midnight hour is something that shouldn’t be taken lightly, especially considering the far-reaching impact that this unfolding disaster could yet have on civilization. That midnight and the black of oil would be paired up serves no small paradox.

But whether or not they actually somehow planned this disaster, guiding the human incompetency and possibly adding in some proactive measures of sabotage; or whether the event was purely an act of human error or of humans getting in over their heads; we do know that the NWO types are going to use an event such as this to their best advantage.

In addition to the fouling of the waters, beaches, marshes and estuaries; the economic ramifications could escalate as the Mississippi export/import artery is affected, additional livelihoods are decimated; harm to fish, animals, and humans becomes more pronounced; and oil prices climb to respond to the true cost of oil and clean-up. Homeland security is on high alert for civil unrest – one of the desired objectives of the NWO plotters.  They’ve been wanting some kind of social disruption catalyst to get people upset and moving into unrest so they have a reason to install their martial law.  If it wasn’t this, then it might have been a “rogue” (actually false flag) nuke event or more.  If I had my choice of bad things they might have done to us to get the population to go into civil unrest; I would have preferred the nuke event inasmuch as it wouldn’t have effected other life forms nearly so much as the Gulf disaster, which primarily upsets nature.

Several things about this disaster are blatantly obvious to most people.
- BP is profoundly downplaying the volume of oil gushing from the oil volcano they created. They have public image reasons as well as legal liability reasons for such minimizing.
- The U.S. government has been assisting in the cover-up of the gravity of this situation, and they exhibited gross negligence in preventative measures (a | b). They are allowing BP to self-regulate their operations before and after the disaster, and they are helping keep media attention away.

And no, it wasn’t just a comedian’s joke that Goldman Sachs placed shorts on TransOcean stock days before the explosions rocked the rig in the Gulf of Mexico sending stocks plunging while GS profits soared — benefitting once again from a huge disaster, having done the same with airline stocks prior to 911 then again with the housing bubble.  Who knew what, and how?

Here’s a video I shot this evening showing the supposed “live” feed by BP, yet for nearly eight hours now, it has been the same short (less than 15 seconds) loop playing over and over, even as the clock continues to roll as if its live. What are they doing that they don’t want us to see?

purposely killing the Gulf

by J. Speer-Williams (h/t Dublin Mick) via Rensemy additions in blue

The private, foreign International Monetary/Banking Cartel controls its puppets in Washington as it controls its oil company executives. And everything the Cartel does is anti-life, there are absolutely no exceptions; and their pretended Gulf oil clean-up is a glaring case in point.

Instead of cleaning up the unprecedented catastrophe created by the Cartel’s mega-corporations (Halliburton, Transocean, and British Petroleum), these very same companies seem to be purposely killing our Gulf of Mexico, under the pretense of cleaning it up.

Instead of using safe, non-toxic ways to gather up the rogue oil gushing from their incompetence, or planned cataclysm, the private Cartel is using an extremely toxic chemical dispersant, with the approval of the Obama administration.

Alan Levine, the head of Louisiana’s Department of Health and Hospitals, said: “We don’t have any data or evidence behind the use of these chemicals in the water. We’re now basically using one of the richest ecosystems in the world as a laboratory.”

As reported in Britain’s Telegraph, Louisiana state Secretary of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Robert Barham reported: “We’re very disappointed in their [EPA and oil company executives] approach. The federal procedures call for a consensus between federal authorities, the responsible party and the states involved. When we met and expressed our concerns [over the use of dispersants], apparently they decided to go without us.”

And go they did. Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency allowed BP to turn our Gulf of Mexico into a toxic testing ground, instead of removing the crude oil.

FIRST OPPORTUNITY MISSED: VACUUM IT UP

British Petroleum (BP) has even refused to use their own oil tankers, lying in the Gulf, to suck up most of the runaway oil, and possibly salvage it for sale later, as was done after a Saudi spill in the ’90’s. That method was so successful, it vacuumed up about 85 percent of that renegade oil.

Nick Pozzi, a former oil pipeline engineering and operations project manager is puzzled why BP did not salvage perfectly good crude oil for later sale, and to thereby protect marine and wildlife.

What Mr. Pozzi does not know is the oil companies are owned by the world’s only legal counterfeiters the International Monetary/Banking Cartel - who can “print” all the money they want, so making money on Gulf oil was not important to them. Killing the Gulf of Mexico is, apparently, important to them, for their own cryptic and esoteric reasons.

SECOND OPPORTUNITY MISSED: OIL SPONGE, SEE VIDEO

If the Cartel had wanted to save marine life, any oil they had not vacuumed up could have been mulched with any number of non-toxic materials, such as “Oil Sponge,” a name trademarked by Phase III, Inc.

Rated as the “best performing” absorbent by the US Army Corp of Engineers, Oil Sponge is 100% organic, and is made from renewable resources.

SO THE ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS KNOWS ABOUT IT?

Oil Sponge is built using a microbial and nutrient package, capable of transforming oil hydrocarbons into a safe bi-product of carbon dioxide and water.

But, the governmental bureaucrats of the Obama administration, and the Cartel’s oil executives, had no interest in using an environmentally friendly product to clean up what is the greatest man-made environmental disaster of all time they seemed intent on making this unbelievable cataclysm far, far worse, and one that could never be cleaned up.

It cannot yet be proven that the Monetary Cartel purposely blew up their own wellhead, but the crimes they have committed in their so-called “clean-up” efforts are well documented, in spite of no corporate media outrage.

ANOTHER PRODUCT: MYCELX, USED SUCCESSFULLY IN OTHER OIL SPILLS, BUT THEY DON’T WANT TO USE THAT EITHER — SEE THIS:

CEO Connie Mixon says it’s revolutionary.  But while this product is used from the Middle East to Europe to Canada, it’s not being used to clean up in the Gulf.  Mixon says she has not been able to garner interest from the parties currently involved in the cleanup–most specifically the Marine Spill Recovery Corporation (MSRC).

“They’re using 30-year-old technology to fight this spill…our product was invented after Exxon-Valdez to specifically deal with spills like these,” Mixon tells WSB’s Pete Combs.

After the Exxon Valdez incident of March 1989, Mycelx of Georgia developed what looks like a paper towel to soak up to 50 times its weight in oil. And while this product is used from the Middle East to Europe to Canada it was of no interest to the parties Obama charged with cleaning up the Gulf of the floating oil those very same parties caused.

WAIT HERE’S ANOTHER ONE THEY DON’T WANT TO KNOW ABOUT: AEROHAZ — COMPANY OUT OF BUSINESS, TECHNOLOGY AVAILABLE SINCE 1998:

Then there is the Aerohaz product manufactured by Sustainable Technologies, Inc. that encapsulates environmental contaminants, making crude oil and other oil like substances easy to retrieve.

HAIR? HAIR WOULD HELP. MOST OF US WOULD BE HAPPY TO DONATE SOME HAIR.

Even hair naturally separates oil from water, leaving large tar globs, in which mushrooms can then be seeded. And as the mushrooms grow, they digest the oil, leaving non-toxic organics, which can then be composed into soil, great for growing healthy vegetables.

Anyone who has ever had a bad hair day knows how well hair will retain oil. In fact, Lisa Gautier, president of Matter of Fact (website for hair salons) has collected 400,000 pounds of hair, and stuffed it all into nylons to be used as booms near Gulf shores.

This idea could have been a shot in the arm of our dying economy, by creating organic compose for the millions of nutrient depleted farm acres in the world. Also there could have been a viable cottage industry of collecting hair from salons.

And, hair is certainly a renewable resource, with most of us contributing. But neither Obama or the Cartel has done anything for our dying US and world economy, but ensure it dies, while feebly pretending to resuscitate it.

And now that they’ve probably destroyed the tourist, shrimping, and fishing industries along the Gulf Coast, we’ll be hearing about more “stimulus packages” that will make what money we do have even more worthless as it enriches Wall Street.

But in the world of what could have been, there’s hay, sawdust, crushed volcanic rock, and even kitty litter that could have mulched with the oil on the surface of the Gulf waters, making for easy pick-up.

But, oil industry executives and their confederates in the Obama administration quickly made sure that all spewing oil would either sink well below the surface, or never rise to it, with over half a million gallons of their dispersants. Now the oil that’s been gushing for weeks can never be vacuumed up or safely neutralized.

Worse yet, these international enemies of humanity, and life in the Gulf, committed their dastardly deed of deeply submerging the floating oil with an extremely dangerous chemical dispersant that would deny all marine creatures oxygen, thus killing them, and marine plant life to boot, as major underwater currents carry this poisonous oily plume through-out the Gulf and into the Atlantic.

Trying to give this mass murder a positive spin, BP spokesman John Crabtree said his corporation had dropped more than 560,000 gallons of [toxic] chemical dispersants on the surface slicks and 28,700 gallons of the chemical at the subsea wellhead, 5,000 feet below sea-level.

Crabtree’s justification for such an insane, criminal act was that the dispersants would drive the oil well below the water’s surface, thus keeping it away from coastal shorelines. So instead of removing the oil, BP decided to make the oil even more toxic, and drive it deep into the ocean where it can never be retrieved, but will kill all marine life in its path.

Mandy Joyce, a marine sciences professor at the University of Georgia carefully chose her words about BP’s deplorable dispersants: “Anything that requires oxygen will not be able to survive that water. The food web is going to change. You could stymie the entire production level of the Gulf of Mexico. That’s a very real possibility.”

BP’s chemical dispersants contain 2-butoxyethanol, a compound that kills marine and wildlife, exactly the life our clean-up measures should try to save.

BP’s chemical dispersants, currently being dropped by airplanes, break the crude oil into tiny droplets that sink well below the water’s surface, where they form a giant cloud or plume, making it impossible to gather, as is the obvious intention.

And with this poisonous plume creating a dead zone, currently estimated to be about the size of Delaware and Rhode Island combined, hidden at about 3,000 feet of water, no one can place an accurate figure on how much oil has actually rushed into the Gulf.

And once this death dealing plume reaches the large, rapidly moving Loop Current, this oily cloud of doom could swing toward Florida and Cuba, killing the coral reefs and marine life there.

According to Stephen Howden, an oceanographer at the University of Southern Mississippi, the Loop Current could drag the oxygen destroying cloud into shallower waters thus potentially impacting the coral reefs and fisheries near Florida’s coast.

University of Georgia’s Mandy Joyce said, “It’s a good thing the oil is not damaging the coast line, but to say everything is fine because its not hitting the coast is missing a very important part of this equation.”

And I would say, Ms. Joyce’s statement is a serious understatement.

Another person famous for misleading and under stated remarks is our president, Barack Obama.

There can be no denying that President Obama and his EPA regulators are accomplices to the crimes in the Gulf of Halliburton, Transocean, and British Petroleum by allowing these perpetrators of the disaster to be the ones in charge of the capping and clean-up efforts.

How much longer will our government allow these corporate criminals to fail with the capping of the oil gushers ,and making a dead zone of the Gulf of Mexico and perhaps the Atlantic ocean?

Thus far, President Obama has made a grandstand play by pretending to excoriate the oil company executives responsible for the Gulf tragedy for not taking proper responsibility.

Excuse me Sir, it’s you who should have taken control and responsibility by tasking competent individuals and companies to cap this runaway well, and to clean up the mess, without destroying the entire Gulf of Mexico in the process.

And instead of excoriating the oil company executives and government bureaucrats who dumped over a half million gallons of toxic dispersants into the Gulf, you should be arresting them for crimes against humanity, not to mention their crimes against marine and wildlife.

Additionally, Obama’s teleprompter writers had the ignorance to state the ridiculous: “I know BP has committed to pay for the response effort, and we will hold them to their obligation,” read Obama.

The very obvious point Mr. Obama, is you should have saved our Gulf of Mexico, by making sure Transocean, Halliburton, and British Petroleum had absolutely nothing to do with the clean-up efforts, rather than making them pay to turn the Gulf into a dead zone.

President Obama went on to say many parties, including the federal government should accept blame for the disaster, he stopped short of saying he, himself, should be held responsible for his part in so destroying so much life in the Gulf.

“There is oil leaking. We need to stop it, and we need to stop it as soon as possible,” said Obama.

It’s not a leak, Mr. Obama. It’s a volcanic gusher spewing out an Exxon Valdez every two to four days.

From whales and dolphins to sardines, from starfish to coral reefs, from microscopic organisms to all the fish in the sea, the Cartel has embarked upon killing, and will kill unless they are stopped. Are you man enough for the job, Mr. President?

US officials — no credible evidence that terrorists trained Shahzad

OFF THE RECORD, natch. But, this is interesting. Six officials, off the record, noting the REALITY of the case, that certain people are creating this out of whole cloth, and the EVIDENCE does not support the allegations. And they “don’t know why” certain people are talking as if they had something solid, when they don’t.

BUT WE KNOW WHY. This is psyops, this is designed to create negative sentiments about Pakistan and to justify a future action against Pakistan, that may involve partitioning Pakistan in order to create an international corridor through Balochistan, to hook up with the Helmand and Kandahar provinces in Afghanistan, which are SIMULTANEOUSLY where the opium grows and where our troops come and go from.

Posted by Daya Gamage – US National Correspondent Asian Tribune

Washington, D.C. 08 May (Asiantribune.com):

No credible evidence has been found so far that the Pakistani-American man accused in the Times Square bombing plot received any serious terrorist training from the Pakistani Taliban or another radical Islamic group, six U.S. officials said Thursday.

“There is nothing that confirms that any groups have been found involved in this for certain,” one U.S. official told McClatchy Newspapers. “It’s a lot of speculation at this point.”

Faisal Shahzad may have, at the most, had “incidental contact” with a terrorist organization, and he may have been encouraged to act, said one of the officials, who declined to elaborate further.

Four U.S. intelligence and counterterrorism officials and two other U.S. officials with knowledge of the case spoke only on the condition of anonymity to McClatchy because they weren’t authorized to discuss classified intelligence or the ongoing investigation publicly.

According to a five-count criminal complaint filed by U.S. prosecutors in federal court in Manhattan on Tuesday, Shahzad admitted after his arrest on Monday to receiving bomb-making training in Waziristan, a part of Pakistan’s tribal area bordering Afghanistan, during a five-month trip to his homeland that ended in February.

According to the criminal complaint, Shahzad admitted that he’d parked a Nissan SUV loaded with propane tanks, gasoline canisters, fertilizer and fireworks coupled to two alarm clocks in New York’s Times Square on Saturday evening and fled.

The vehicle began smoldering, but failed to explode. Shahzad was apprehended on Monday night on a Dubai-bound Emirates flight at John F. Kennedy Airport that he’d been allowed to board even though his name was on the “no fly” list.

The U.S. intelligence and counterterrorism officials, however, said that the bungled nature of the bombing and the trail of clues that led the FBI to him suggest that he never received even rudimentary terrorist training or instructions on how to evade arrest.

Nor has any credible evidence been uncovered verifying his story of being trained in Waziristan, they and the other U.S. officials said.

“We’ve seen nothing suggesting that Shahzad received even minimal training, and everything about what he did suggests otherwise,” one U.S. official said.

The official cited, among other things, the would-be bomber’s use of the wrong kind of fertilizer and the fact that he made little or no effort to conceal his identity or that of the vehicle he used.

Another U.S. official said that Shahzad hadn’t even removed the plastic caps on the propane tanks’ valves before he abandoned the vehicle.

Nor does it appear that he made plans to escape after leaving the car in an illegal parking space where it was sure to attract attention in an area that one U.S. official said “has about the heaviest police and surveillance presence of any public space in this country.”

Several news reports on Thursday, though, said that U.S. officials had gathered “mounting” evidence that the Pakistani Taliban had trained Shahzad.

“Officials said that after two days of intense questioning of the bombing suspect, Faisal Shahzad, evidence was mounting that the group, the Pakistani Taliban, had helped inspire and train Mr. Shahzad,” The New York Times reported.

However, Richard Kolko, an FBI spokesman, said Thursday that it could be “weeks or months” before U.S. investigators are able to corroborate all aspects of Shahzad’s tale, saying they have to interview detainees and other people in Pakistan.

“If he went to a (training) camp, it is a lengthy process,” Kolko said. “Everything has to be checked.”

“Did somebody encourage him to try to do this? That’s possible, given where he was and for how long and his financial circumstances,” a third U.S. official said. “But did anybody show him how to do it? Nothing we know points in that direction, and I don’t know why some people are talking as if we had something solid. Inspired, maybe. Trained? Not in any serious sense of the word.”

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs Thursday dodged questions about whether links had been found between Shahzad and foreign extremist groups.

“This is a rapidly developing, ongoing investigation. And if there are developments that need to be made public, they’ll likely be done so through the Department of Justice,” he said.

Shahzad, 30, is the son of a retired senior air force commander from Mohib Banda, a village near Peshawar, the main city in violence-torn northwestern Pakistan. He came to the U.S. in 1998 on a student visa and became an American citizen last year.

Testifying before the Senate Appropriations Committee, Attorney General Eric Holder said Thursday, May 06 that Shahzad was providing investigators with valuable information.

“Mr. Shahzad is continuing to cooperate with us,” Holder said.

the point B list

To refresh our memories on Paraguay: the Bangkok of Latin America, and not for nothing, in which we learn about the Tri-Border Area, the Jesuits, Chabad, organized crime, government corruption, and human trafficking, not necessarily in that order. The average American doesn’t hear about Paraguay, though it’s an organized crime paradise. Why is that? Paraguay not ready to come out of the crock pot yet? Maybe soon.

Back in 2002, think tanks discussed the Islamic threats bubbling in South America.

After September 11th, the U.S.-led “war on terror” moved swiftly into Afghanistan. Once the heavy combat had diminished, speculation turned to what the next target would be. The Philippines, the former Soviet republic of Georgia, Yemen, Somalia, and Indonesia were all discussed as possibilities. Except for a few disparate stories, the tri-border region of South America received little attention as a locus of terrorist activity despite a recent history of Islamist terrorist activity. But this region, which already has a history of mass casualty Islamic terrorism, is also an area of concern. (http://www.nti.org/e_research/e3_16a.html)

Oh, the Philippines (Abu Sayyaf), check. Georgia, check. Yemen, check. Somalia, check. Indonesia, check.

Last but not least…the Tri-Border Area….

Board of directors for that think tank include Ted Turner, Sam Nunn, Pete Dominici, Richard Lugar, etc. See think tanks: where experts go to reverse engineer plans for world domination.

At think tanks, experts figure out how to get from point A to point B. First they decide on point B, and then they reverse engineer how to arrive there from point A. When insiders do this, they call it “brainstorming” or “war games” or “simulations.” When outsiders do this, they call it “terrorism.”

This explains how a list put forth in 2002 seems so very incredibly prescient in 2010. You see, that list was not a prediction, that was a plan. That list of countries was point B: places where terrorists (will definitely) cause trouble, (just as soon as we get our people around to it).

The Tri-Border Area is on the point B list. That’s why we might pay attention to this area of South America — a very strong contender for an upcoming hot spot. Probably guaranteed.

Bolivia will also soon have a satellite built and partly financed by China. Allegedly the low orbit satellite will help track drug cartels and smuggling.

Also, three journalists were recently threatened with kidnapping, allegedly by the Paraguayan People’s Army, a leftist group allegedly linked to FARC. The letter used newspaper clippings to threaten two reporters and Senate leader Miguel Carrizosa, and to demand the release of six EPP prisoners. Here’s the letter.

Super-wily EPP terrorists don’t leave any clues for handwriting analysts. Ha!
Paraguay has passed a bill imposing a temporary suspension of constitutional rights in parts of the country in a crackdown on violence, it is reported.

The 30-day suspension in parts of the north gives the armed forces greater powers to combat a left-wing group. The Paraguayan People’s Army (PPA) is responsible for killing four people, sources in the country’s congress said. The emergency will allow troops and police to detain suspects and ban public meetings for 30 days. President Fernando Lugo asked for the measures three days ago after a police officer and three farm workers were killed in an attack on Wednesday.

Investigators in the country claim the rebels belong to the PPA, a small group with suspected links to left-wing rebels in Colombia. “These fugitives of the Paraguayan People’s Party should be captured, because everyone has the right to live in peace,” Mr Lugo said as he defended his request for a state of suspension, AFP news agency reported on Saturday.

So this is like the Patriot Act for Paraguay. Temporary, sure. Let’s suppose something goes wrong in the meantime and they maybe have to extend that or make it permanent… ? But really, nothing to worry about because this guy Lugo is a great guy. He loves the people he would never do anything like that. Wait till you see…

[First of all, he's a real ladies' man. AND a Roman Catholic bishop.

kiss kiss hug hug

The 39-year-old added that Lugo gets full marks between the sheets, and claims six other women will soon step forward to claim he also sired their children. "I can guarantee that Lugo is a phenomenon in everything, not only in politics," she said. (NY Daily News, Forget Monica Lewinsky... 4/23/09)

One of his lovers was a teenager, which technically makes him a pedophile.

"Viviana at her Confirmation, the age when she was sexually abused by Bishop Lugo."

Bishop Lugo's Harem

If the many alleged paternities of Lugo are proved true, we would be facing the case of a Catholic Bishop who – at a time when he was fully exercising his orders and episcopal functions – simultaneously had sexual affairs with three to seventeen different women. Even in this post-Vatican II era where we have witnessed all types of moral corruption, Lugo sets a remarkable record of depravity.

Here I believe we have a good X-ray vision of the kind of man presented by important sectors of the Church and the media as “the Bishop of the poor” and a sincere combatant against corruption.]

So, anyway. For everyone NOT paying attention, the official narrative goes that he’s a big lefty liberation theology priest who loves the poor, fights for the people, (ok so he loves the ladies too), blah blah blah. It all seemed so promising at first. He enjoyed the strong support of the Paraguayan people.

He got elected in April 2008.

At the beginning of November he fired all his military leaders without explanation.

ASUNCION, Paraguay — Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo fired his military chiefs Wednesday, a day after denying he had worries about a coup amid calls for his impeachment. In a statement given to journalists at the presidential palace, Lugo named new commanders for the army, air force and navy without explaining his reasons. The new chiefs will assume their posts Thursday, said the statement signed by the president….

Since winning the presidency last year and ending 61 years of domination by the conservative Colorado Party, Lugo has been trying to push reforms that aim to benefit Paraguay’s numerous poor. He has criticized an elite class that “sits comfortably in air-conditioned offices,” while the poor “survive on just one meal a day if they are lucky . . . without safe drinking water, surrounded by misery.” Lugo’s rivals have been searching for ways to force him out of office before his term ends in August 2013. Last week, a majority of lawmakers threatened to mount an impeachment trial over comments he allegedly made in a poor neighborhood that some interpreted as a call for class warfare. Lugo denied saying that.

That article is dated 11/4/09.
The US immediately announced a big donation of equipment to form an elite counter-terrorism unit for the Paraguayan Army.

On 4 November 2009, the United States announced they would donate US$1.39 million in equipment towards the formation of an elite unit of highly trained troops in the Paraguayan army. Backed by US funding (sources put the total amount of the expedition at US$3 million) and training from SOUTHCOM, the troops are trained in counterterrorism strategies and are to be equipped with the latest gear and technology. Yet in spite of their training as counter-terrorism experts, how and why they are used will be up to the discretion of Paraguayan authorities, according to Liliana Ayalde, the US ambassador to Paraguay.

…The US has a vested interest in keeping Paraguay terrorism-free. The loosely regulated tri-border area, particularly Ciudad del Este, is listed as a rising area of activity for terrorist activity such as training and money laundering, and US authorities have been monitoring the region for signs of Hezbollah, Hamas, and other terrorist cells. Thus, any aid that is used to combat terrorist forces in Paraguay may be money well spent, and Paraguay’s recent history battling what are considered homegrown terrorist organizations such as the Paraguayan People’s Army (EPP) is likely seen favorably by Washington.

Aha so it’s all good. The US helps to fight terrorism. The US respects the sovereignty of Paraguay. The EPP is becoming a household name, though the movement has obscure origins. Hmmmm.

The future of the EPP will depend on how President Fernando Lugo, a former Roman Catholic bishop, chooses to act. Will the president allow for a military offensive, including search-and-destroy missions, against the EPP, should its activities continue? Or will Lugo’s religious background affect his decisions?

Oh HAHAHAHA! I’m sure he doesn’t mean to be so coy. Of COURSE Lugo’s religious background will affect his decisions. No doubt he’s a Sabbatean, just pretending to be a Catholic, but obviously not taking Catholicism all that seriously, which means that absolutely nothing will hold him back from search and destroy missions to get the wily EPP terrorists, with their shady backgrounds. He’s already on the case requesting special powers from the Paraguayan congress! Check!

No problemo.

Perhaps, also, maybe, Lugo works for the CIA? Could that be the explanation for all this juicy cooperation?

Fernando Lugo and George W. Bush

1. Ties to the CIA, NGOs, and known operatives

All the scaffolding of the CIA and its extensions and derivatives such as USAID, the National Endowment for Democracy and the media addicted to empire, was played by Bishop Fernando Lugo on 20 April.  In Paraguay, noticed that NGOs received heavy donations from the arrival in the country by Ambassador James Cason, a known destabilizing sponsored by Otto Reich. The aim of the covert operation was to meet the alternation in power, placing the bishop Fernando Lugo as president of Paraguay.

James Cason, Ambassador, Paraguay Singing Sensation. (”James Cason, the U.S. Ambassador to Paraguay, has achieved rock star status in that country. Literally.”)

Public Diplomacy and Covert Propaganda: The Declassified Record of Ambassador Otto Juan Reich

2. Ties to youth and charitable groups, “civil society”

Among the many organizations benefiting from these dollars distributed by the administration of George W. Bush who supported the campaign of the bishop, stood Management and Local Youth House, which financed with funds from USAID and IAF Tekojoja movements and LDCs, as in Nicaragua, the NED and other agencies of the CIA led alternative choice Violeta Chamorro in 1989. NGOs and voluntary-what we now know as civil society, are known as an extension of the neoliberal policies of the U.S. worldwide.

3. Promoting democracy through NGOs, using them to control the media, promoting nepotism

The CIA and the U.S. Agency for International Development (AID or USAID) have a central role in the scheme of promoting political ideas and facts favorable to the empire, and they added a new agency, created in 1983, named The National Endowment for Democracy (NED). In Paraguay, the NED has a total control over the press media, which returns a list indicating which political referents can promote. …U.S. Ambassador James Cason, like a Pied Piper dedicated to singing Paraguayan folklore, was determined to align all NGOs and foundations that receive U.S. dollars cleric behind the president, nephew of the CIA Epifanio Méndez (turned in by Agee) and that perpetuate the family tradition today.

[About Epifanio Mendez Fleitas "His life unfolded in the worlds of politics, music and intellectual activity. Thus, he held various positions in government (he was police chief between 1949 and 1952 and chairman of the Central Bank of Paraguay from 1952 to 1955 ). It was clear and undisguised criticism against the first signs of what became the long and bloody dictatorship of General Alfredo Stroessner ( 1954 - 1989 ) which earned him jail, torture and a lengthy exile in Uruguay , the Argentina and United States of America."]

[About Philip Agee: "In 1968 Philip Agee was finally disgusted with his dirty work as a CIA officer in Ecuador, Uruguay, and Mexico. He submitted a letter of resignation and immediately slipped into Cuba, then went to France and Britain. As he wrote his memoirs while scraping by on handouts, he frequently wondered if some of the people who were helping him could be trusted. The answer was "no" -- a typewriter that one friend loaned him was discovered to contain a homing transmitter. Finally his book "Inside the Company" was published in 1975, launching his career as history's most celebrated anti-CIA activist. The CIA kept harassing Agee, even though he retains his U.S. citizenship and has never been charged with a crime. He was expelled from Britain, France, and Holland, and his U.S. passport was revoked in 1979. Today he lives in Germany, is still trying to get his passport back, and does speaking tours on U.S. college campuses."]

4. Ties to Freedom House and our best friends

The charge of distributing the dollars for “change” was Dr. Carl Gershman, president of the NED. The Freedom House functioned as a funnel through which passed granting the NED funds, and most of them ended up in the pockets of outstanding communicators. Radio Nanduti through Freedom House, received large sums of money from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).

Leonard Sussman, CIA and the Executive Director of Freedom House, a visit to Paraguay in late 1987, led by Humberto Rubin, establishing contacts with various organizations to receive funds after the NED. The aim was to “grow” the idea of change.
Fernando Lugo and Hillary Clinton

Since then, these organizations promoted the scaffolding structure that now controls everything in Paraguay can be said, paradoxically, under the guise of defending freedom of expression.

This article sums it all up, the way many powerful forces came together to bring Lugo to power.

To have the backing of a warlord who ruled the country for decades, the assistance of the U.S. State Department and a group of companies in over 130 countries worldwide, and over one hundred powerful companies including hotels, travel agencies, fisheries, food factories, weapons industries, farms, resorts, restaurants, printing and publishing, is the dream of any Latin American politician….Not surprisingly, the favored of the Catholic fraternity, Ambassador James Cason and the press have sealed a pact with far-right supporters of late dictator. Earlier, during the transition, is characterized by profit from the gifts of the largest drug trafficker in U.S. history, General Andres Rodriguez, famous for his partnership with heroin dealer Auguste Ricord. Then agreed to a figurehead dictator’s son, Juan Carlos Wasmosy, and finally with the stem of one of his top ministers, Luis Angel Gonzalez Macchi. . .

All the scaffolding of the CIA and its extensions and derivatives such as USAID, the National Endowment for Democracy, NGOs and the press that subsidize addicted to the empire, was made available to the Bishop Fernando Lugo by James Cason, destabilizing star of W. Bush.

It’s not for nothing. A set up like this does not happen by accident. It will not be wasted.

even dead terrorists can get a page on facebook it seems

Osama bin Laden has a Facebook page? Even though he’s been dead for 8+ years?

According to reports, Osama has a page named “The leader of the Mujahideen, Osama bin Laden” and his address is given as “the mountains of the world”.

Following the revelation, security experts have urged Facebook’s US office to shut down the page. The account became active less than a month ago, but had already attracted nearly 1,000 extremists, and although the language used is Arabic, messages in English have started to appear, The Sun reports.

Internet terror expert and author Neil Doyle said: “Bin Laden, via his supporters, is clearly taunting his pursuers.” Since 2001, Osama and his organisation have been major targets of the United States’ War on Terror.

There is a 16 million pound reward for his capture, and he along with other Al-Qaeda leaders are believed to be hiding near the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

Israeli spies in Malaysia

aangirfan: Mossad busy in Malaysia? 1/8/10 — well looks like the answer to that is Yes!

Are Mossad, and the CIA, trying a policy of divide and rule?

Malaysia is a moderate, mainly secular country with a relatively successful economy.

In elections, the Islamic parties usually perform badly and a secular party, the National Front, wins most of the votes.

Malaysia has criticised the war policies of the Pentagon and Israel.

The Pentagon and Israel do not favour moderate, secular Moslem countries because they do not obey the dictates of the Pentagon and Israel.

The Pentagon and Israel prefer countries like Saudi Arabia which are easy to control.

Are Mossad and the CIA trying to wreck Malaysia?

April 11, 2010: Malaysia: Anwar claims Bukit Aman (federal police headquarters) infiltrated by Israeli spies

UPDATED

By Asrul Hadi Abdullah Sani

KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 — Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim continued attacking the government today over what he claimed was its infiltration by Israeli intelligence, by alleging in Parliament that agents working for Tel Aviv had worked as contractors in Bukit Aman Federal police headquarters.

In what seems clearly as an attempt to reduce the Barisan Nasional (BN) government’s credentials among conservative Muslims, Anwar claimed that Israeli agents have worked in Bukit Aman’s communications server room.

He claimed that the agents were working for Asiasoft Malaysia, a sub-contractor engaged by Master Plan Consulting Sdn Bhd to perform an upgrade of communication systems for the police.

Anwar (picture) named Police Director of Logistics Mansuri Zainal as the person who had made the allegation in a letter to the Home Ministry which was also signed by an unnamed Special Branch officer.

Anwar did not say how he obtained the information surrounding the allegation.

“On Nov 25, 2008, the then Home Minister was briefed at 4pm in the KLIA VIP room about concerns raised by the police, specifically, the logistics department and the Special Branch,” he told Parliament when debating the Supplementary Supply Bill.

“Then between November and December, a police report was lodged by the responsible police officers and investigated by one ASP Sairah. Then Sairah was transferred to Taiping and there was no news after that,” he said.

Anwar said that in a report from August 2008, the Special Branch’s probe of Israeli involvement has certified that Asiasoft was 30 per cent owned by Asiasoft Pte Ltd registered in Singapore and controlled by Asiasoft Global based in Israel.

Anwar claimed that his allegation was admitted by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan when he acknowledged Israeli involvement in July 2008.

“Musa Hasan said in his statement that we were aware of the enforcement of the Israelis in the communication upgrading system and will inform the Home Ministry as soon as we learn about it,” he said.

Anwar also claimed that he had several letters from the chief of police, the head of logistics and the Special Branch director.

Anwar stressed that Ipoh Timor MP Lim Kit Siang has raised the same issue in Parliament in October 2008.

Anwar said that Bukit Aman’s department of logistics had also asked the Home Ministry to terminate MPC’s contract in January 2009 because of the involvement of Israeli intelligence officers in the subcontractor appointed by the company.

At a press conference later, Anwar said that he is not anti-Semitic but questioned how a foreign intelligence officer can have access to the nation’s communications infrastructure.

“This is not an issue of anti Semitism. This is an issue of security and spy, involvement of APCO and we were fooled until our concept 1 Malaysia has big similarities with 1israel. Can we deny or dismiss PDRM just to defend APCO?

“No country that I know of with any level of credibility and integrity would ever condone the presence of ex-intelligence forces of another country deep into their communications and strategy infrastructure, unless they are completely slavish to their foreign interests,” he told reporters.

IN OTHER WHISTLEBLOWING NEWS…

Now, in a sworn declaration obtained exclusively by Truthout, Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, who was chief of staff to former Secretary of State Colin Powell during George W. Bush’s first term in office, said he would be willing to state, under penalty of perjury, what top Bush officials knew and when they knew it.

He claims that Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and others knew the “vast majority” of prisoners captured in the so-called War on Terror were innocent and the administration refused to set them free once those facts were established because of the political repercussions that would have ensued.

Wilkerson said it was “politically impossible” to release detainees, even the ones Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and other senior officials knew were innocent.

“The concern expressed was that if they were released to another country, even an ally such as the United Kingdom, the leadership of the Defense Department would be left without any plausible explanation to the American people, whether the released detainee was subsequently found to be innocent by the receiving country, or whether the detainee was truly a terrorist and, upon release were it to then occur, would return to the war against the US,” he said. “Another concern was that the detention efforts at Guantánamo would be revealed as the incredibly confused operation that they were. Such results were not acceptable to the Administration and would have been severely detrimental to the leadership at DOD.”

So in other words, they rounded up a bunch of random people — the US military didn’t even do the rounding up these detainees were handed in by various warlords and bounty hunters in Pakistan and Afghanistan — and threw them into Guantanamo.

Then they lied repeatedly about them, interrogating them and torturing them, knowing the whole time these are random people who have nothing to do with terrorism and certainly not 9/11, because of course the very people running the show (Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc.) know exactly all about how 9/11 went down and it had nothing to do with any of these people in Guantanamo. But that doesn’t stop them from lying to the American people and the world for years on end.

And the reason they can’t ever ever ever let these innocent people go is because they’d be “LEFT WITHOUT ANY PLAUSIBLE EXPLANATION TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.”

So they’d be caught in their lies.

And they can’t be caught in their lies, such results are “NOT ACCEPTABLE” so instead they perpetuate the lies and the torture of innocent people FOREVER AND EVER. Dick Cheney said just last year that there only other alternative is to KILL THEM.

Cheney said last year that the only alternative the Bush administration had to setting up Guantanamo was to kill the prisoners detained there.

“If you don’t have a place where you can hold these people, the only other option is to kill them, and we don’t operate that way,” Cheney said.

Isn’t that a hoot how he spins it at the end as being so magnanimous of him? That they decide to LET THEM LIVE,  knowing the entire time that these are innocent people who never had anything to do with the terrorist events planned by Cheney and his pals?

Behold pure psychopathy.

And it goes on and on and on because it’s the only way to keep the American people in the dark.

So if you want this bullshit to end, then what you have to do is stop listening to their lies. The more that Americans accept these lies as truth, the more innocent people die. And in case you’re a racist here’s a tip just for you: they don’t value your life over any other life. It’s all the same to them. Otherwise why would they send your American heroes sons and daughters and brothers and friends into this meat-grinder knowing the WHOLE TIME that all their wars are based on LIES? They sacrifice American heroes just as easily as they sacrifice some nobody Muslim. It is all the same to them. They don’t care about you. They only care about covering their own sorry lying asses. That’s it. They laugh at you, you fools who believe their lies.

Al Qaeda?

^^^^^^^

Putin looks pissed.

Who are these terrorists?

^^^^^^^

Late last month, Russian drug control chief Viktor Ivanov explained that a large drug trafficking route had shifted. Instead of going from Afghanistan and southeast through Pakistan and into India, drug trafficking has shifted west through Iran and then north through Azerbaijan. Georgia plays a large role in this new route.

“According to our data and information from foreign sources, the high level of corruption among Georgian authorities is preventing the fight against drug transit across the country from being effective,” Ivanov said.

And in the northeast corner of Georgia, Pankisi Gorge. “Russian-Georgian relations have long been strained over the presence of Chechen rebels in Georgia’s Pankisi Gorge and Georgia’s refusal to let Russian troops flush the rebels out.”  (source)

The militants hide out in very beautiful, ancient places, where people have lived in peace, close to the land, for centuries.

Is that fair?
Pankisi Gorge is the little red mark in the northeast corner

^^^^^^^

There have been many reports over the past few years of al Qaeda linked terrorists in the Northern Caucasus.

September 2004: al Qaeda tie to Beslan school massacre probed

November 2007: al Qaeda associate, Doku Umarov, declares Islamic Caucasus emirate

February 2009: al Qaeda has gained strength in North Caucasus

August 2009: notorious al Qaeda militant from Algeria killed by Russian forces

March 2010: associate of Doku Umarov killed by Russian forces

Some groups in the Northern Caucasus have been linked to Wahabbi Islam and Saudi Arabia.

The Special Purpose Islamic Regiment (SPIR), designated by the U.S. Department of State as a terrorist organization Feb. 28, 2002 , is a Chechen terror group engaged in a bloody, ethno-nationalist struggle for the independence of the Republic of Chechnya and Ichkeria from almost 150 years of Russian subjugation.  While most of the citizens of Chechnya adhere to a mild form of Sufi Islam — mysticism based on certain indigenous pre-Islamic traditions — members of the SPIR are Sunni Islamic radicals, imbued with a passionate fundamentalism of the Wahhabi creed, who, along with two other Chechen groups recently added as terrorist organizations, have appropriated the tactics of international terrorism with Islamic connections as a means to advance their nationalist objectives. The Oct. 23, 2002 , attack on Moscow ’s Poshipnikov Zavod Dubrovka Theater was a case in point — an al Qaeda-style attack that possibly could portend things to come.  This would especially be true if SPIR and other groups decide to sabotage the results of the March 23 referendum, where Chechens voted overwhelmingly for political autonomy while remaining a part of Russia .

But while the SPIR shares the desire for independence with the mainstream Chechen population, who are moderates and largely reject fundamentalist ideologies, their interests are not the same.  The SPIR, in addition to Chechen independence, seek the implementation of their fundamentalist ideology throughout the Caucasus region as well.  This would mean, ideally, areas from the North Caucasus republics in Russia , Abkhazia in Georgia , and parts of Azerbaijan would be under the rule of an Islamic caliphate.  SPIR has managed to muddy the mainstream Chechen struggle through violent acts of terrorism and promotion of its preferred version of Islam.  As Wahhabists, the SPIR and similar groups have transformed the Chechen struggle for national liberation into the appearances of a religiously-inspired rebellion, jihad, with direct links to the most notorious and pernicious terror group the world has ever seen.

In 2005, Israel reportedly invited one of Putin’s deputies for the Northern Caucasus to Tel Aviv for a meeting to discuss building a security fence between Stavropol in the south of Russia and Chechnya and Daghestan in the North Caucasus.

The information on Dmitry Kozak’s planned visit to Israel came before an armed conflict in the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria, the city of Nalchik. This republic is in the central part of Northern Caucasus and also has the common border with Stavropol territory. Yesterday’s fights in Nalchik will push the Russian authorities even more strongly towards activization of cooperation with Israelis, including in erection of the protective wall on Caucasus.

…In both of these republics, regardless of the massive presence of the army units and various security services, the Kremlin is unable to establish order for 15 years already. Every day the skirmish and explosions, and even massive military operations of the government forces against the local supporters of independence or of the radical Islam, take place there. As a result, the Russian authorities decided to ask Israelis for help, taking into consideration the effectiveness of the security fence separating Israel from the West bank of Jordan river.

…According to information available, Kozak also plans to meet with the head of Israeli Foreign Intelligence Mossad, Meir Dagan. If this meeting takes place, it will mean that the members of the Russian delegation come to Israel not only to discuss the security fence project (this issue is absolutely out of Mossad’s competence).

Does Russia really need Israel, and Israel’s “help”? Does any country really need Israel? It’s laughable. And it’s a lot more laughable now than it was in 2005.

But Israel has their little pet Saakashvili in Georgia. And Georgia just happens to be so strategically located. According to a widely circulated article this month by Eric Wahlberg, Russia Azerbaijan/Armenia: All Roads Lead to the Caucasus, US special forces trained Georgian troops in the Pankisi Gorge for five years.

Interestingly, from 2002-2007, more than 200 US Special Forces troops were training Georgian troops in Pansiki, though neither the Americans nor the Georgians were able to end the attacks on Russia.

Why do you suppose they weren’t able to end the attacks on Russia hmm?

And did they bump into any al Qaeda linked rebels there in the gorge?

Maybe they share pup tents.

still working the knobs to get a war going

1. Israel lies about killing Palestinians

Doctors who treated two Palestinian youths shot dead by Israeli troops in the West Bank have refuted the army’s claim that they had used rubber bullets and said the medical evidence showed that live ammunition had been fired.

The shooting of Mohammed and Osaid Qadus, both teenagers, in the village of Iraq Burin was followed yesterday by the deaths of another two youths shot by Israeli forces. The renewed violence came as it was confirmed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet President Barack Obama in Washington tomorrow amid continued US efforts to relaunch indirect negotiations between the two sides in the conflict.

…The two Palestinians who died yesterday – said to be in their late teens – were from Awarta near Nablus and were on village farmland overlooked by the Jewish settlement of Itamar. Villagers said they assumed the pair were working the land. The Israeli military said they had tried to stab a soldier.

The Israeli military said on Saturday that it had opened an investigation into the shootings but also insisted that soldiers had responded with tear gas and rubber bullets to a “violent and illegal riot” and added: “Live fire was not used.”

But a hospital X-ray released by the Israeli human rights agency Btselem and also shown to The Independent by doctors at Nablus’s private Speciality hospital show what appears to be a conventional metal bullet lodged in the brain of Osaid Qadus, who died there of his injuries at about 3am yesterday.

Dr Ahmad Hamad, the duty resident in the hospital’s accident and emergency department when the boys were brought in, said Mohammed Qadus had suffered a single shot in the chest. He said there was a small entry wound and a larger exit wound in his back.

Another doctor, Abdul Karim Hashesh, was on duty when the bodies of the youths shot yesterday arrived at Nablus’s Rafidia Hospital. He said that one, Mohammed Kuarik was hit by a total of seven bullets while the other, Saleh Kuaraik, was hit by at least three. Young Palestinians burned tyres and set up roadblocks of rocks across one of the main roads into Awarta in protest at the shootings yesterday afternoon.

2. tension may hasten attack on Iran. is that the point of the tension? to JUSTIFY hastening the attack on Iran?

WASHINGTON - A pro-Israel conference opening Sunday exposed fears that a row over illegal Jewish settlements built on Palestinian territories had left scars in US-Israeli ties but raised the risk of Israeli strikes against Iran.

Hardline Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — while he visits Washington this week for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) three-day annual policy conference — is now to meet President Barack Obama Tuesday….”I think that the impact of this crisis is to hasten Iranian efforts to achieve a nuclear weapons capability,” Satloff warned.

“And ultimately, because there are scars now in the US-Israeli strategic relationship,” the impact may be “even to hasten the clock on Israeli preventive action against that Iranian nuclear capability,” he said.

3. Syria to help with security in Lebanon refugee camps — “The West” warns of an outburst of violence in the camps & “demand” Syria’s involvement? seems suspicious to me.

Syria was reportedly set to make a comeback to Lebanon in its new role to help rein in the security situation across Palestinian refugee camps throughout the country.

The daily Al-Akhbar, which carried the report, said Syria, Lebanon as well as some Palestinian figures have received several messages from the West warning against the outburst of violence in refugee camps in Lebanon.

The letters, according to the daily, have demanded that Syria help contain the situation in Lebanon refugee camps.

Damascus expressed readiness to meet the West’s demand, but requested an amendment to the structure of Lebanon’s security in order to make security institutions “cooperative and responsive” to the Syrian leadership.

4. Naval Intelligence alert on al-qaeda attack in Red Sea similar to USS Cole, which might be linked to Iran? Hmm? What do you think?

DUBAI - THE US government has warned ships sailing off Yemen’s coast of the risk of al-Qaeda attacks similar to a suicide bombing of the US warship Cole in 2000 that killed 17 US sailors.

The US Office of Naval Intelligence said on its website that ships in the Red Sea, the strategic Bab al-Mandab strait between Yemen and Djibouti, and the Gulf of Aden along Yemen’s coast were at the greatest risk.

‘Information suggests that al-Qaeda remains interested in maritime attacks in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden along the coast of Yemen,’ the office said in a statement, citing an advisory by the US Department of Transportation. ‘Although it is unclear how they would proceed, it may be similar in nature to the attacks against the USS Cole in October 2000 and the M/V Limburg in October 2002 where a small to mid-size boat laden with explosives was detonated.’

Yemen, at the forefront of Western security concerns since a failed December attack on a US-bound plane, boosted security on its coast earlier this year to prevent militants reaching its shores from nearby Somalia to reinforce al-Qaeda in Yemen. Al-Qaeda’s Yemen-based arm claimed responsibility for the failed December plane attempt. Western allies and neighbouring oil exporter Saudi Arabia fear al-Qaeda is exploiting instability on several fronts in impoverished Yemen to recruit and train militants for attacks in the region and beyond.

The Transportation Department statement said more sophisticated methods of attack by al-Qaeda in the waters near Yemen could include missiles or projectiles. The US advisory, dated March 10, said more sophisticated methods of attack by al-Qaeda in the waters near Yemen could include missiles or projectiles.

‘Although the time and location of such an attack are unknown, ships in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden along the coast of Yemen are at the greatest risk of becoming targets of such an attack,’ the statement added. ‘All vessels transiting the waters in the vicinity of Yemen are urged to operate at a heightened state of readiness.’ — REUTERS

By M K Bhadrakumar

News that the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had reached a plea bargain with David Coleman Headley, who played a key role in the planning of the terrorist strike in Mumbai in November 2008 in which 166 people were killed, has caused an uproar in India.

The deal enables the US government to hold back from formally producing any evidence against Headley in a court of law that might have included details of his links with US intelligence or oblige any cross-examination of Headley by the prosecution.
Nor can the families of the 166 victims be represented by a lawyer to question Headley during his trial commencing in Chicago. Headley’s links with the US intelligence will now remain classified information and the Pakistani nationals involved in the Mumbai attacks will get away scot-free. Furthermore, the FBI will not allow Headley’s extradition to India and will restrict access so that Indian agencies cannot interrogate him regarding his links with US and Pakistani intelligence.

…The plea bargain raises explosive questions. The LeT began planning the attack on Mumbai sometime around September 2006. According to the plea bargain, Headley paid five visits to India on reconnaissance missions between 2006 and the November 2008 strike, each time returning to the US via Pakistan where he met “with various co-conspirators, including but not limited to members of LeT”.

The plea bargain simply refers to the Pakistani handlers of Headley as A, B, C and D. But who are they? We will never know.
The LeT’s close links with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) are legion and it is inconceivable that such a massive operation - with huge international ramifications and the potential to trigger war with India - could have been undertaken without the knowledge of the ISI, headed by General Ashfaq Parvez Kiani, the present army chief, from October 2004 until October 2007.
