human sacrifice directly linked to rising development and prosperity

More urban legends, like the human fat trafficking was an urban legend? Or just the sick reality. Occult, money, human sacrifice, operating in ORGANIZED PROTECTION RINGS. How familiar.

Human sacrifice is on the increase in Uganda according to a government spokesman. This barbaric crime is directly linked to rising levels of development and prosperity, and an increasing belief that witchcraft can help people get rich quickly.

Witch doctors claim they have clients who regularly capture children and bring their blood and body parts to be consumed by spirits. One witch doctor confessed for the first time to having murdered about 70 people, including his own son.

According to media reports, the witch doctors revealed that some of their clients capture other people’s children and bring the heart and the blood directly to them to take to the spirits. They are brought in small tins and are placed under a tree from which the voices of the spirits are coming. Clients come on average three times a week, with all that the spirits asks them to bring. The witch-doctors deny any direct involvement in murder or incitement to murder. They claim that spirits speak directly to their clients.

Witch doctors are paid about 500,000 Ugandan shillings, equivalent of about $260 for a consultation. The head of the Anti-Human Sacrifice and Trafficking Task Force in Uganda, assistant commissioner Moses Binoga of the Ugandan police, said that witch doctors operate in a network and have bosses who give instructions and receive the bulk of payment made by clients. The bosses involve in one of five or six witch-doctor protection rackets operating in the country.

The Assistant commissioner went on to say that the senior ones extort money from lower people because they deal in illegal things. He said that police had opened 26 murder cases in 2009, in which the victim appeared to have been ritually sacrificed, compared with just three cases in 2007. He also said that they have about 120 children and adults reported missing whose fate they have been unable to trace. They cannot rule out that they may be victims of human sacrifice, he said. Child protection campaigners in the country believe the real number is much higher, as some disappearances are not reported to the police.

Two lawmakers say Venezuela belongs on that damn list immediately, if not sooner, citing “overwhelming” evidence.

In separate statements, Florida’s Reps. Connie Mack and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen cited, among other reasons, the relationship between Caracas and the Islamic regime in Iran and with the FARC rebels in Colombia, both considered by the United States as entities that sponsor global terrorism.

Mack, who represents a district in Fort Myers, said that “the evidence that links Venezuela with some of the most dangerous terrorist organizations is overwhelming.” He cited the refusal of the government of President Hugo Chávez to implement in Venezuelan airports the measures demanded by the Transportation Security Administration.

OK, to be clear, the “overwhelming” evidence that links Venezuela to “some of the most dangerous terrorist organizations” is: refusing to implement measures demanded by the TSA in Venezuelan airports. Yeah, um, FAIL with the overwhelming evidence, Mr. Mack.

Oh but that’s not all. There’s more forward “linkage:”

He also said that evidence exists that agents from FARC, Hamas and Hezbollah “operate with few restrictions in Venezuela” and that many of those agents use Venezuelan passports to travel abroad.“There is no doubt that the potential threat to [U.S.] security from Venezuela is extremely high,” Mack stated, at the same time he demanded that the Obama administration include Venezuela on the list of terrorist-sponsoring nations “without delay.”This is not the first time that Mack has promoted this type of initiative. On Oct. 28, 2009, he introduced a resolution in Congress, together with his fellow congressman from Florida Ron Klein, to include Venezuela on the list of terrorism sponsors. That proposal had gone nowhere, until now.

Now that “everything’s changed.” (again)

For her part, Rep. Ros-Lehtinen cited DEA reports that demonstrate a Venezuelan connection in a new alliance formed between the FARC and al Qaeda, in which the oil producing nation plays the part of a “massive airport for the use of the traffickers.”

“It is no surprise that Hugo Chávez allows Venezuela to serve as a massive airport for the use of traffickers. In fact the DEA has said that all the planes captured in West Africa left from Venezuela,” Ros-Lehtinen said.

She explained that the recent arrest of three African agents of al Qaeda after a drug smuggling operation showed a new panorama of cooperation between Islamic extremist groups and those of South American narco-guerrillas.

Ros-Lehtinen may have been citing Jay Bergman, DEA director for the Andean region of South America.

“As suggested by the recent arrest of three alleged al Qaeda operatives, the expansion of cocaine trafficking through West Africa has provided the venue for an unholy alliance between South American narco-terrorists and Islamic extremists,” Bergman said in an interview over the weekend.

To reach the U.S. market, Colombian smugglers are meanwhile being driven to use disposable, fiberglass submarines. The homemade craft are constructed in the mangroves of Colombia’s Pacific coast, used to carry drugs to Mexico for transshipment to the United States, then sunk.

“All of the aircraft seizures that have been made in West Africa, and we’ve made about a half a dozen of them, had departed from Venezuela. If you look at the range and refueling requirements, that’s the place you have to fly from,” he said. “Geography is the key reason why Venezuela has become a springboard location,” Bergman added.

Well, I can agree that geography is always a key reason behind any hot spot in the world. Either there’s something buried in the ground, or something that can be hidden in the ground, or something that can be grown in the ground, or something that can be passed over the ground. Usually called simply “natural resources.”

The Israelis have been all over Columbia for a long time.

Israel is now Colombia’s top weapons supplier, with the bulk of the armaments being used against FARC and another leftist group, the Ejercito de Liberacion Nacional (National Liberation Army or ELN). Israeli weaponry includes drones, light arms and ammunition, surveillance and communication systems and specialized bombs capable of destroying coca fields.

The irony is that Colombia’s armed forces occasionally clash with right-wing paramilitaries and drug cartel gunmen trained in the late 1980s by rogue Israeli mercenaries, one of whom was detained in Russia earlier this week on an Interpol warrant.

The news throws a most unwelcome spotlight on the Colombian government’s efforts to avail itself of Israeli expertise. In 1987, right-wing paramilitaries hired Israeli former Lieutenant Colonel reservist Yair Klein and members of his private “security” company Hod He’hanitin (Spearhead Ltd.) as advisors on the country’s leftist insurgency with tacit approval from the government of President Virgilio Barco Vargas.

Over the next two years, Klein and his personnel trained right-wing vigilante paramilitaries belonging to affluent landowners, who would eventually become the nucleus of the Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia (AUC.) AUC quickly moved beyond its original intent of providing protection to wealthy landowners to becoming deeply involved in drug trafficking, and had support from elements in the army and the police, and Klein apparently shifted to providing expertise to the drug traffickers as well.

Chavez has called Columbia the “Israel of Latin America” as reported a year ago today in Haaretz, in response to a cross-border raid. (http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/960284.html)

Venezeuelan President Hugo Chavez ordered tanks and thousands of troops on Sunday to the border with Colombia, accusing it of pushing South America to the brink of war and likening it to Israel for its U.S.-backed attacks on militants.“The Colombian government has become the Israel of Latin America,” an agitated Chavez said, reiterating his criticism of the Israel Defense Forces’ strikes on Palestinian militants….Correa said the rebels were bombed and massacred as they slept, using precision technology. He said Colombia violated Ecuador’s airspace when it bombed the rebel camp, which the Colombian military said was located 1.8 kilometers from the border.

So all this hysteria all of a sudden over Venezuela seems a bit disingenuous. What are we to just accept the word of Jay Bergman at the DEA? Sometimes I think these people imagine they have credibility just because they work at a letter agency and collect a nice paycheck. Let’s not forget that Headley was a DEA informant, too, as well as working for the CIA. And the CIA knows all about al Qaeda, so the linkages work both ways now, don’t they.

Hot on the heels of Bergman’s weekend interview, a FARC rebel suspected of kidnapping and murdering (by decapitation) a provincial governor was arrested. As if to underscore what thugs are FARC. But from the comments in the second link:

I’m a Colombian, living in Venezuela. Uribe and all of the Colombian Government is tied to the paramilitaries, which are behind most of the drugs and crime. They go around pinning everything on the FARC. The paracos even dress up like FARC to commit crimes.

All of this fits into a much larger narrative, described here:

The coming to power in Venezuela, of President Hugo Chávez on February 2, 1999 coincided with a traumatic event for the U.S. military: the closure of its main military installation in the region, the Howard base, located in Panama, closed under Torrijos-Carter (1977). In its place, the Pentagon selected four locations to control the region: Manta in Ecuador, Comalapa in El Salvador and the islands of Aruba and Curaçao (Netherlands sovereignty).

…After the attacks of 11 September 2001, the U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld defined a new military doctrine to meet the threat of “international terrorism”. It modified their external deployment strategy, based on the existence of huge bases equipped with numerous staff. He decided to replace these megabases by a much larger number of Foreign Operating Locations (FOL, Operational Site prepositions) and Cooperative Security Locations (CSL, Shared Web Security) with little military personnel, but equipped with ultramodern technologies of detection.

…In Latin America, the redeployment of bases allowed the Manta (Ecuador) to collaborate in the failed coup of 11 April 2002 against President Chavez. Thereafter, a media campaign run by Washington began to spread false information about the alleged presence there of cells of organizations such as Hamas, Hezbollah and even Al Qaeda.

Under the pretext of monitoring such movements, and in retaliation against the government in Caracas that ended in May 2004, a half century of U.S. military presence in Venezuela, the Pentagon extends the use of its military bases on the islands of Aruba and Curaçao, located very near the Venezuelan coast, which have recently been increased by visits of U.S. warships.

This has been denounced by President Chavez recently: “It is good that Europe knows that the American empire is arming to the teeth, with the islands of Aruba and Curacao filled with warplanes and warships . (…) I am accusing the Kingdom of the Netherlands to be laying next to the U.S. empire, an aggression against Venezuela “(1).

…Thus, Venezuela and the Bolivarian Revolution are surrounded by no less than thirteen U.S. bases located in Colombia, Panama, Aruba and Curacao, as well as aircraft carriers and warships of the Fourth Fleet. President Obama seems to have left hands free to the Pentagon. All are predicting an imminent assault. “Will the people consent to a new crime committed against democracy in Latin America?

UPDATE 1: To wit:

CARACAS, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) — Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said Friday that he had ordered F-16 jets to intercept a U.S. military plane that twice violated Venezuelan airspace earlier in the day. Speaking at a cabinet meeting, Chavez said that the U.S. plane, based on the Netherlands’ Curacao island in the Caribbean, intruded into Venezuelan airspace twice, the first for 15 minutes and the second 19 minutes. The F-16s escorted the U.S. plane out, he added. However, the U.S. military denied that any of its planes entered Venezuelan airspace on Friday.

“As a matter of policy we do not fly over a nation’s air space without prior consent and coordination,” the U.S. Southern Command, which is in charge of U.S. military activities in the hemisphere, said in a statement. “We operate with the utmost respect for the sovereignty of the nations in our hemisphere. Last month, Chavez accused the United States of flying an unmanned spy plane into Venezuela’s airspace and vowed to shoot down any similar aircraft in the future. Venezuela suspended diplomatic ties with Colombia in July in response to a U.S.-Colombian military base deal, saying it would pave the way for the United States to invade Venezuela. Both Washington and Bogota denied the allegation.

flu resurges suddenly in Ukraine

1. Recombinomics - Ukraine fatalities jump to 827,. 100,000 new cases in one day

Ukraine Fatalities Jump to 827 - 100K New Cases in One Day
Recombinomics Commentary 13:20
January 6, 2010

3,905,542 Influenza/ARI

225,925 Hospitalized

827 Dead

The above update is from the Ukraine Ministry of Health.  The 24h increases included 22 more deaths and over100,000 new cases.  Much of the activity is in the eastern half of the country, with the biggest increases in cases, 6,563 to 343,583, and deaths 5 to 113 in Donetsk.  However, Kiev had a large increase in cases , 4,945 to 327,003 and deaths, 3 to 40), and there were another 4,355 new cases in the surrounding Kiev oblast (see updated map)..

Media reports have described a deteriorating situation in Donetsk, with severe cases and fatalities in doctors and health care workers.  Yesterday’s report had an increase of 8 fatalities in Donetsk, and today’s total of 113 is well ahead of Lviv, which has 102 fatalities and had been the highest oblast prior to yesterday.

New sequences from Russia, Turkey, and Sweden highlight changes at position 225 and early sequences from Ukraine had D225G or D225N in all fatal cases.  These same changes have now been reported in fatal cases in Russia, which continues to raise concerns that such sequences may become more widespread.

Release of additional sequences from fatal cases in Ukraine, including multiple samples from collections from different tissues would be useful.

2. in remarkable coincidence, CDC hopes to prevent repeat of 1958 mortality surge

Jan 7, 2010 (CIDRAP News) – Warning against complacency about H1N1 influenza, Dr. Anne Schuchat of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said she doesn’t want to see a repeat of what happened in 1957-58, when a perception that the pandemic was over was followed by a winter surge of flu- and pneumonia-related deaths.

To prevent that, Schuchat, head of the CDC National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, urged the public to get the vaccine, now widely available. …Schuchat referred to a graph showing that deaths attributed to flu and pneumonia peaked in October of 1957, dropped back to a nearly normal level in December, but then surged again in the winter, peaking in late February. (Accounts of the pandemic say the second mortality peak, strangely, was not accompanied by widespread flu outbreaks.)

“In 1957 they essentially gave the all-clear whistle in that December-January time period,” Schuchat said. “They had vaccine, but they didn’t encourage its use, and they did go on to see that increase in mortality.”

She cautioned that no pandemic is the same as any other, adding, “I do not know that the 1957 story is what we’re looking at today, but I do know that we have vaccine and we don’t have to repeat history.”

“The H1N1 virus is still circulating,” she said. “We have an uncertain future. We want and need to avoid complacency.”

1. various stories from Naharnet News Desk — Lebanon, Palestinian Camps, UNIFIL

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak confirmed readiness for war with Lebanon by next May 20 amid Israeli accusations that Hizbullah was responsible for placing large quantities of explosives in southern Lebanon. Barak warned that Israel would target Lebanon’s infrastructure if the Jewish state came under rocket fire by Hizbullah….Meanwhile, Israel said that 300 kilograms of buried explosives recently discovered by UNIFIL in the southern town of Khiam were likely planted by Hizbullah….Shalev did not say how Israel was informed of the discovery in the area of Mazraat Sarda near Khiam….She said the Hariri government is responsible for all violations of 1701 and must “take serious steps” to deal with Hizbullah’s growing military activity, particularly in civilian villages.

Druze leader Walid Jumblat said he has no information about an Israeli war on Lebanon. “There is no confirmed information about the possibility of an Israeli war on Lebanon soon, but analysis leads to this conclusion,” Jumblat said in remarks published Friday by al-Akhbar newspaper. He said Arab-Israeli Knesset member Saeed Naffaa has informed him that Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu is seeking to form a national unity government that will include Kadima party. “If this happened, it means he (Netanyahu) intends to launch a new war on Lebanon,” Jumblat explained.

The Lebanese army and UNIFIL launched a military exercise with live ammunition Friday morning in the border town of Naqoura. One portion of the exercise included firing 155-mm artillery shells and medium weapons. Maj. Gen. Claudio Graziano, force commander of U.N. peacekeepers, as well as senior Lebanese army officers will later Friday inspect the site where the military exercises took place.

The Lebanese army intelligence has reportedly arrested a suspected Fatah al-Islam member and seized devices and equipment during a raid of an apartment in Beirut. An Nahar daily on Friday described the man as a “hefty catch” given his participation in terrorist activities in Lebanon. It said the army intelligence raided a house in the Beirut area of Aisha Bakkar and arrested the suspected terrorist after monitoring his activities for eight months. According to information received by the newspaper, the suspect, who is a Palestinian residing in Lebanon, was “plotting for new terrorist operations.” Al-Akhbar daily, in its turn, said two security officials refused to confirm the information about the arrest. However, informed sources said the suspect lived in one of the Palestinian refugee camps in northern Lebanon. As for al-Liwaa newspaper, it said the army arrested the man in the Zeidaniyeh neighborhood’s Independence Street in Beirut and opened an investigation into what it called the “large mission” carried out by the army.

The Iranian-Hizbullah-Hamas alliance is connected via a underground tunnels - which, in Iran, hide Tehran’s nuclear facilities where enriched uranium can be used to produce a nuclear weapon, said a report published by Israel National News (INN) on its website.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s foreign policy and security advisor Christoph Heusgen has reportedly informed Lebanese officials about the infiltration of terrorists from Arab countries into Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. An Nahar daily said Friday that Heusgen told the officials during his visit to Beirut about the necessity to monitor activity inside and outside the camps and the areas surrounding Beirut airport. Heusgen also expressed his government’s readiness to provide the necessary monitoring equipment, according to the newspaper.Well-informed sources told Ad-Diyar newspaper that Merkel’s envoy also discussed with Lebanese officials the issue of missing Israeli airman Ron Arad, and the four Iranian diplomats who were kidnapped in 1982.

Israel presented UNIFIL commander Maj. Gen Claudio Graziano with its vision of arrangements in and around Ghajar following a possible Israeli army withdrawal from the village’s northern part, with diplomatic sources telling The Jerusalem Post that negotiations over a pullout are very much in their early stages. …The Israeli foreign ministry later issued a statement saying the Jewish state was committed to continuing to work toward reaching an agreement on Ghajar that would preserve Israel’s security interests, the well-being of the residents, and the fabric of life in the town, according to the Post. The daily quoted diplomats as saying that reaching an understanding over the issue had become “more complicated because Lebanon refuses” to deal with Israel and the negotiations are being conducted with UNIFIL.

2. Israel cuts off trees in Lebanon under UNIFIL eyes — must be protecting it’s “vision”

On Thursday, Israeli occupation forces, backed by military vehicles used an agricultural tractor equipped with a big electric saw to cut off trees on the Lebanese part of the border with occupied Palestine. Al-Manar’s correspondent videotaped the violation and took shots showing how the Israelis continued to cut off the trees while UNIFIL soldiers were just watching a few meters away. The United Nations Interim Forces in south Lebanon often take tough measures in case any Lebanese gets near the barbed wire on the border, including journalists.

The new Israeli provocation constitutes a breach of UNSCR 1701 that ended hostilities during the 2006 Israeli aggression on Lebanon.
The UNIFIL should have taken measures to stop Israel from violating the resolution and trespassing on Lebanese land.

3. Israeli aircraft pound Gaza, one Palestinian killed

GAZA, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) — A Palestinian was killed and at least four others wounded in an Israeli air strike on a tunnel on Gaza-Egypt borders, medical sources and witnesses said on Friday. The attack was the latest in a series of bombings the Israeli airplanes has carried out in the Gaza Strip early Friday….Four earlier Israeli air strikes took place, targeting open spaces and a training site for the Islamic Hamas movement, security sources and witnesses said. The Israeli army started the attacks around midnight, and said that the targeted places were used by Palestinian militants to produce, store and fire rockets into Israel.

Clearly, Israel is allowing the situation in the Gaza to deteriorate to such a point that it will reach a flashpoint – and that flashpoint will be coordinated with a provoked flashpoint with Hezbollah at which time the Israelis will take the punt and attack Iran knowing that the US will not be able to stand by and watch Israel put itself at such risk without helping it.
